We Can Thrive

About The Project

The “We Can Thrive Project” is a health promotion intervention funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada. It focuses on engaging Sub-Saharan African populations through community engagement programs and capacity-building initiatives. The project aims to raise awareness about prevention, testing, treatment, and care services for Sexually Transmitted and Blood-borne Infections (STBBIs), with a particular emphasis on HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C.

Our Objectives

  • Training Peer Navigators

We conduct workshops to train peer navigators in delivering culturally safe and stigma-free STBBI prevention, testing, treatment, and care education to racialized newcomers, immigrants, and Canadians from sub-Saharan African countries.

  • Community Engagement Programs

We implement community engagement programs for racialized newcomers, immigrants, and Canadians from sub-Saharan African countries, considering age, gender, region of origin, and African language proficiency. These programs aim to increase knowledge of HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and care services.

  • Public Events and Campaigns

We collaborate with public events and campaigns to reach racialized newcomers, immigrants, and Canadians from sub-Saharan African countries, intending to increase knowledge of effective, evidence-based HIV, HCV, and STBBI prevention measures.

Do you know your STBBI status? If not get tested. If testing for one STBBI, test for all. HIV, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B and if indicated, Hepatitis C. All the STBBIs have asymptomatic phases. Asymptomatic means you may never have developed symptoms.
